When it comes to travelling, how you look is key. With these airport fashion tips, you can give your look a chic and comfortable upgrade.

I’ve seen them, and so have you—the fashionistas at the airport who look effortlessly chic, as if they’ve just stepped off a runway. Meanwhile, I used to struggle to find a balance between comfort and style, and often looked like I had simply fallen off my bed and rolled right into the airport!

What if I told you that we could enjoy the best of both worlds? With a little planning and some key pieces, we can elevate our airport look without sacrificing comfort. We’ll explore cosy travel outfit ideas, stylish loungewear for travel, and even some skincare tips to keep us glowing on the go.

Buckle up, because we’re going to get ready to jet-set in style!

1. Choosing the Right Travel Pants

When it comes to comfortable travel attire, the pants we choose can make a huge difference. The key is to find something that offers flexibility without looking too casual.

Jeans: The Classic Choice

Jeans are a go-to for many travellers, but not all jeans are created equal. Choose a pair with some stretch to ensure you can move freely. A pair of dark-wash skinny jeans with a bit of elastane can be both flattering and comfortable. Pair them with a loose top and you’re good to go!

Joggers: The Trendy Pick

If you’re looking for something a bit more relaxed but still fashionable, joggers are your best bet. They offer the comfort of sweatpants without making you look like you’ve just rolled out of bed. A pair of tailored joggers in a neutral colour can be dressed up with a crisp white shirt or dressed down with a casual tee.

Leggings: The Versatile Option

For ultimate comfort, leggings are a no-brainer. To keep the look chic, opt for a pair in a thicker fabric or with contrasting details like faux leather panels. Similarly, black leggings with mesh or leather details can add a fun fashionable twist to your travel outfit.

2. Footwear – Sneakers or Trainers?

Footwear is another crucial element in our travel ensemble. While we might be tempted to reach for those stylish boots, our feet will thank us if we opt for something more practical. I would go so far as to recommend wearing running shoes, because they helped me immensely when I was sprinting from one corner of the DMK Airport in Bangkok to another, to secure a visa!

A pair of white sneakers can be both stylish and comfortable. For a sportier look, opt for trainers with good arch support.

3. Statement Accessories – Less Is More

When it comes to airport fashion, accessories are a game-changer. The key is to keep it minimal yet impactful. A pair of oversized sunglasses can instantly elevate your look, while a chic scarf can add a pop of colour and double as a cover during your flight.

4. Stylish and Functional Bags – The Best of Both Worlds

Your choice of bag can make a significant difference in your overall airport look. It needs to be functional to carry all essentials, and stylish enough to make a statement. A tote with compartments for electronics, travel documents, and a small makeup or skincare kit can be both practical and fashionable. A sleek backpack will serve the same purpose.

5. Chic Outerwear – Make a Statement as You Go

What are some examples of fashionable travel outerwear?

When it comes to fashionable travel outerwear, think beyond basic jackets to elevate your style on the go.

  • A light, tailored blazer adds sophistication to even the most casual outfits, giving you a polished look effortlessly.
  • For a laid-back vibe, consider a classic bomber jacket—an urban and versatile choice that seamlessly transitions from day to night.
  • If you prefer a touch of rugged charm, a well-fitted denim jacket is a timeless option, effortlessly enhancing the overall aesthetic of your travel ensemble.

Go beyond mere functionality, making a statement about your personal style all while staying chic and comfortable during your journeys.

6. Effortless Hairstyles – Keep It Simple

Your hairstyle contributes to your overall airport look. Pick something that requires minimal upkeep. A messy bun or a low ponytail can keep your hair out of your face and still look stylish. For men, a well-groomed beard or a slicked-back hairstyle works well.

7. Skincare – Fresh and Hydrated On-the-Go

Here’s something I’ve asked myself many times – How can I ensure my skin stays fresh and hydrated during travel?

The recycled air in aeroplanes can be harsh and dehydrating to the skin, so it’s essential to keep it moisturized. Carry a small bottle of hydrating facial mist to refresh your skin during the flight. Don’t forget to apply a good moisturizer before you board.

My favourite tip is to first sanitize my hands with a hand sanitizer, and then use a hydrating or moisturizing sunscreen on the plane. It’s because we’re so much closer to the sun’s rays when we’re up in the clouds!

8. Loungewear – The Ultimate Comfort Zone

When I talk about stylish loungewear for travel, I’m referring to outfits that make us feel like we’re wrapped in a blanket but look like we’re ready to hit the runway.

Matching loungewear set in a neutral colour can be both cosy and chic. For men, a pair of tailored sweatpants with a fitted tee offer the same level of comfort and style.

Some Travel Fashion Do’s and Don’ts

Before you jet off to your next destination, let’s delve into some essential travel fashion do’s and don’ts for the ultimate airport style.

Travel Fashion Do’s

  • Choose Breathable FabricsBreathable fabrics like cotton or moisture-wicking materials are your companions during travel.
  • Layer Smartly: Always carry a light jacket or scarf to adapt to changing temperatures in airports and inside planes.
  • Wear Slip-On Shoes: They make it easier to get through security checks without hassle.
  • Use Multi-Functional Accessories: Think scarves that can double as blankets or eye masks.
  • Carry a Reusable Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is crucial, especially during long flights. A chic reusable water bottle can be both a style statement and a lifesaver.
  • Pack a Mini Skincare Kit: A small bag with essential skincare items like moisturiser, sunscreen and an SPF lip balm can go a long way in keeping you fresh and protected.
  • Choose Neutral Colours: They are easier to mix and match, giving you more outfit options with fewer pieces.

Travel Fashion Don’ts

  • Over-Accessorize: Too many accessories can be a hassle during security checks and can clutter your look.
  • Wear High Heels: Fashionable, but definitely not practical for moving around airports! While a pair of stiletto heels or a flashy belt might seem like a good idea, they can slow you down during security checks and become uncomfortable over time. Opt for a pair of sleek sneakers and a simple, chic belt instead.
  • Overpack: Carrying too many items can make your journey cumbersome and might lead to extra baggage fees. Pack smart.
  • Wear Complicated Outfits: Anything that requires a lot of zips, buttons, or laces will slow you down during security checks.
  • Forget Cultural Sensitivities: If you’re travelling internationally, be aware of the cultural norms related to attire in your destination country.
  • Apply Heavy Makeup: It might look good when you first apply it, but heavy makeup can become uncomfortable during a long journey.

You’re now fully equipped to navigate the airport in both style and comfort. Keep these tips in mind, and you’ll be well on your way to becoming a travel fashion pro!

There You Have It – Your Passport to Stylish and Comfortable Travel

The next time you’re packing for a trip, remember these airport fashion tips to ensure you fly with both comfort and style!
